Welcome to the Bioinformatics Wikia[]

Welcome to the Bioinformatics Wiki! Here we are determined to provide as much information about bioinformatics as possible, with tutorials and examples of code as well as helpful programs and databases. So what is bioinformatics exactly? Luscombe, Greenbaum, and Gerstein proposed a definition in a 2001 paper saying that bioinformatics is "conceptualizing biology in terms of macromolecules (in the sense of physical-chemistry) and then applying "informatics" techniques (derived from disciplines such as applied maths, computer science, and statistics) to understand and organize the information associated with these molecules, on a large-scale". The Wiki was started in June of 2015 and now contains 1,501 articles.
